Seems like it’s so boring since I don’t have court updates to add. Can you believe that we’re almost to the one year anniversary of V’s adoption? I will admit that I look at the photos from the party at least once a week still.

So, what are we up to?

Let’s give you the run-down.

I am procrastinating. I have loads and loads of laundry to do and a sink full of dishes. Not to mention all of the sewing and crafting projects piling up around me. I have been, however, sticking to my little projects around the house. My desk in the kitchen is clean and the kids’ rooms still look decent. This week I am diving into my pantry to see what I can find & clean.

B is napping… Literally, I can barely hear my music over his snoring. LOL! The station has been moved and his work schedule is back to normal for the time being. We both expect a lot of travel for him down the road this fall into next year.

Big D is doing o.k. He’s started baseball. They haven’t had their first game yet, but he’s secured a position at short stop and has the most hustle of any of the kids on his team. He is still struggling in school, but we definitely see progress.

Little d also is starting some new activities, as I posted the other day… he’s loving Chess Club and tennis starts soon for him. He also is loving the piano. All of the kids started lessons this summer and he really loves it. He, however, is still struggling to stay healthy. We just finished the fourth week of school and he’s already missed four days of school. We are hoping that his ear will heal soon and we’ll be able to put this illness junk behind us.

Kindergarten is all fun and games for V. He already has a new best friend and they were inseparable at the skating party last night (although, there was no skating involved in the night for either of them). He’s doing well learning his phonograms and you can tell that Head Start is paying off with his writing of both letters and numbers.

Miss Bean also has a best friend at preschool. She even made him wear a black shirt to match hers the other day!

I really need to get the camera out so that I can share some photos along with this, but I haven’t taken a picture of anything lately!

O.K. Enough procrastination from me today. Stay safe if you’re on the East Coast.

I wish I could get the scanner to work so I could prove that I am not making this up. But, you’ll just have to take my word.

The other day, Bean comes home with some work she did at school, one paper was a little “book” she made called, “My Feelings Book.” And here’s what it says on the inside:

I am happy when I get flowers.

I am sad when aliens punch me.

The End.

So, this is how my brain works…

Started thinking about the week ahead, thoughts landed on tomorrow and baseball and how we’re going to get everything done, which started me thinking about how much fun I had playing sports, which made me wonder if D will make friends with the other boys on the team quickly, which made me think about my best friend when I was little, which made me think about monopoly, and that made me think about all of the sleepovers we used to have when we were little, which made me think about the fact that both my sister and I used to go over to spend the night with her sister and her or vice versa… And that’s when the light-bulb moment happened. My mom is a freaking genius. It honestly *never* occurred to me that my parents did anything other than go home and just miss us when we were at their house. Not until today did I realize what a sweet gig my parents had going. They’d trade off nights with the four girls and get to have free babysitting. How did I not get this before now? *This* is a reason to only have two kids.

Too late.

Love you, Mom!

Each of my kids has his or her own personality…

Son #2 would rather be in front of a screen than anywhere else. It could be a t.v., Nintendo DS, computer, movie… Any sort of screen is the happiest place in the world to him.

But, that’s not o.k. with us. We do allow some screen time–probably more than we should. And then we make him do some other things, too.

With the changing season it was time for him to pick his new activities. He picked tennis and chess.

My kid is a yuppie

It’s Sunday night. We’ve relaxed this weekend, now the kids are bathing and getting ready for a new week.

With school started, I am trying to use my time wisely and have decided to work on a room each week. To try to control the clutter and keep things clean(er) and just keep the house up. It’s far too daunting to just try to do everything all at once. So, this is the method that I’m trying out. This week, I decided it would be the boys’ room. Honestly, the reason I picked their room is the fact that I bought some new vinyl clings and wanted to be able to showcase them once they were up. And, there’s no way I was taking a photo of their room last week! I’m not 100% happy with the way that it looks now. And I didn’t get through all of their clothes as far as weeding out those that are too small, but I did make progress. And I still wanted to show of those clings.

So, here’s a look at my sons’ room today…

The baseball figures are new.. This is the wall on your left as you walk into the room.

This is the boys' bed. We've had it for a few years, but people always want to know what triple bunk beds look like--here are ours.

Isn't this a great quote? It's on the wall between the bed & the closet.

Another angle of the quote...

The view from the far side of the room.. just to put this in perspective.

I was (am) pleased with how it turned out. I am hoping that the new baseball decor will take them from their young ages now into pre-teen, teen years. And the great thing about the vinyl is that it can come down very easily if/when they’re tried of it. I think I was able to change the look of the room without spending much money and none of it is hard to change out. I think the boys like it, too, but they haven’t really said anything.

V is… well.. V is V.

He has his own very huge personality. There are times (many, many times) when we butt heads. There are times when he utterly wears me out. And there are times that his insight amazes me. There are times when he asks some very interesting questions (there are also times when he just asks a lot of questions!).

Today marked the end of soccer for Bean and Vin and Vin really enjoyed playing. At first he complained, in his typical Drama King style, but as the season went on he’d count the days down to his next game. After the game the kids were given certificates and a little bag of candy. While Bean was trying to figure out the quickest way to get all that sugar into her system, like the candy junkie that she is, Vin was saying goodbye to his friends and team mates. He went up to each of them and gave them a hug and told them that he’d miss them. And he wasn’t giving the toddler hug that you see.. He has the man hug down.. a little pat on the back and a “Dude” thrown in there.

I really love that kid.

B has been working day and night and night and day lately. He’s been working 6-7 days a week and 12-14 hours a day. It’s been ugly.

But, it’s for a good reason. His station is moving… Or, at this point, they’re basically moved! And, tonight the signal was moved from the old station to the new location. This is huge! Moving a radio station is just a *little* more intense than moving a typical office.

So, this hurdle means that we are one step closer to getting our Daddy back. And I am another day closer to getting my husband back. I miss getting to hang out with my best friend every night!

And we are all so proud of him for everything that he has been doing to provide for us.

Tune in and see if you hear the change… *wink*

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but in more than one of the Disney princess movies, the princess is thought to be dead & then brought back by true love’s kiss. So, in a lot of the playtime at our house, someone is dead.

Anyhow, the other morning we were all hanging out and playing and I was dead. Bean ran to Daddy and told him that I needed true love’s kiss because I was dead.

Daniel turns to Brian and asks, “If Mommy is dead, does that make you the boss now?”

Typically today is my “birthday” post.

But, today you get the twofer 🙂

Yes, I am now another year older. What year do you pick up speed? I think that might have already happened to me. I celebrated a little early by taking a girls’ weekend to Vegas with my besties. And then yesterday I celebrated with the family.

To be completely honest, this year didn’t have a stellar start. I had a melt-down. Thirty-three year old temper tantrums aren’t half as cute as two year old tantrums are. But, I think we all have our days. And yesterday was one of mine. B has been working a lot lately and I have been in the thick of summer with four kids. It’s hard when you’re missing your best friend and your support…

Thankfully, today was the first day of school for our boys. It doesn’t mean that things are any less crazy around here. It’s just the beginning of a different kind of crazy. For the hours that the boys are in school things will be calm and relaxed and I will be able to accomplish all sorts of things that have just sat while I was entertaining kids. But, those hours between school and bedtime become a whole world of chaos. We have to fit a whole extra day of homework and fun and food and chores all into just a few short hours. But, alas, I am ready for that change. Just like I was ready for the change to summer a couple months ago.

After I finished my meltdown yesterday, we enjoyed lunch out with my sister-in-law and mother-in-law. And then I did a little running around to get the rest of the school supplies together. After all of that, we made a cake and monkey bread for this morning.. and the kids were in bed nice and early. I, however, could not sleep.

So, they’re well rested and off to school and thankfully, nobody here will care that I’m dragging.. Bean is happily watching Snow White in the other room. And maybe this afternoon we’ll enjoy a nap together.

Tomorrow she will be off to her first day of school. She’s attending a new preschool through the school district, two mornings a week, only a couple hours at a time. But, I think that she’ll love it. Also tomorrow, little d is having some minor surgery done–we’re going to take out the tube and hope that it fixes his currently constant ear infections.

No back to school post would be complete without a couple of photos.. so, here are my beautiful babies!

Hope you’re enjoying the rest of your summer!

So, we walk into the mall today, (Back to school shopping.. school starts Monday!!!) and there are 3 security guards walking out of a store in front of us.

David leans over to B and whispers, “Security guards, stay cool.”
