So, I promised more info. And I think I owe it to myself to dive a little deeper and sort of process what happened this weekend.

I chatted with quite a few friends before this visit. It was a really big deal for me/us/her/Bean.

And it’s so hard (impossible?), to know if we’re making the right choices.

I realize there are tons of open adoptions and these sorts of visits happen everyday. But, those aren’t my kids! And most open adoptions happen because a birth parent decides to place a child up for adoption. That just wasn’t the case for us..

So, it wasn’t easy. I think if B would have had his way, we would have cancelled last minute. The “what if”s can be overwhelming. And, we add to the normal worries another layer–we have our boys to think about. Their mom just isn’t in a place where they can have the same experience. We hope that at some point, they, too, will be able to know their biological family. But, for now, we just want them to know that they’re loved and not to be too jealous of Bean.

Anyhow, I am glad we went through with the visit.

Bean had a few things to give to her BM (bio-mom). She took a piece of pottery she had painted and some school work. But, when we arrived, she was too shy. She was sort of doing the hip-hugging hide thing that kiddos do. So, it was a little awkward. But, in a few minutes they found common ground through technology… Bean took my phone and showed BM all the pictures. BM also showed Bean her photos. B & I were a little nervous about how people would be introduced… Bean has a couple bio-siblings… And she knows, but the things she “knows” are vastly different than what she really “gets”. Thankfully, BM was very cautious with her wording.

It was a good visit.

I don’t know that I am in a rush to do it again.

But, I do think it was the right thing to do.

I really hope that this visit (and any possibly in the future) will just help Bean as she becomes her own person. I hope that she feels loved and wanted as sees that her BM loves her, too.

We made it…

So, B has met her biological mother. Lots of thoughts and feelings… I will save them for another day though. Lunch went well & we survived. Thanks for the thoughts/prayers.

Seems like the longer I have this blog, the less frequent my posts are… Much excitement around here, tonight we have a sleepover for B’s Daisy troop 🙂 We are expecting 5 little girls and lots of energy, messes, and giggles.

And I have a fair amount of nerves. We are planning on having B meet her biological mom soon. Any other adoptive mamas with words of wisdom? How about support? Prayers, thoughts..?

This feels like the right thing to do. It also is very scary. So hard to risk anything when it comes to our baby girl.

I will, for sure, update with what happens.

So, life is busy. No change there!

I think back to our time fostering, we always had such drama. There were huge changes day to day. We are still busy, but it’s a calm busy–like the constant waves of the ocean, always in motion, but rhythmic. It’s much more manageable than the craziness & uncertainty of foster care.

In our normal now, I am loving my job. I watch a little dude, A, three days a week. He’s 7 months old and just an adorable little chunk. He’s not crawling yet–which I am thankful for. I don’t have any races planned, but am still running. I have not been diligent (to say the very least) with my diet the last couple months & now my jeans are snug. So, as of yesterday, I am back on medifast.

Dan is a lady killer… We are amused and a little scared when we see the love notes that come home. And I am already avoiding answering the phone–it’s never for me & usually a girl! In school, he just did a project about Nevada & now he’s learning the state capitals.

David, oh my sweet David, where are you? He has been quite a little handful this week! He reminds me of me–a little sarcastic. What doesn’t remind me of me is his video game obsession–that’s 100% B!

Vin is also quite the gamer. But, that’s not his only skill. This quarter he got straight A’s!!! In school, if he gets 100% on his spelling pre-test, he doesn’t have spelling homework that night & gets to skip the test. He does that a lot. I imagine in a year or two his spelling skills will surpass mine. He is sporting a
“unique” smile these days–one of his front teeth is dangling by a thread (gross!).

Bethy also as quite the smile. She has already Iost 8 teeth & the adult teeth are coming in quickly. She has been doing winter guard and has really enjoyed it. Her last show was yesterday & she is ready to sign up again–although, we will skip the summer. She has been in trouble a bit at school. I know it’s hard to believe, but my daughter is chatty.

And my husband, we just celebrated 10 years of marriage 🙂 This past 6 months or so have been a challenge for B though, not as far as our marriage, but just in life. His dad passed so very quickly. It still feels unreal to me. It has been so hard to just watch his grieving process. But, he is doing just that. He’s processing and progressing & I know that it will never be o.k., but I do see parts of my husband coming back that have been missing.

We also have just plain been missing each other, too! March is a very busy month for him–that’s why I took the kids solo to Vegas. But, we made it! We are back to our normal busy 🙂

I think those are the high points.

Here are a couple pix 😉

We made it! It only took 5 bathroom breaks for the 5.5 hour drive.. :p

Then I took the kids on a hike adventure…

We walked from Circus Circus to M & M’s world. I have no clue how far it was, but we had quite a few detours and we were all beat once we made it. Took a taxi back & enjoyed a picnic dinner in the room before crashing.

Today we’re at the Adventuredome. The kids are loving all of the rides. My wallet is feeling the midway (and all of the stops during our adventure yesterday). Thankfully, my kids get it and were happy to have another picnic lunch.

On tap for tonight, “room service”… It will be pizza as that’s the only in-room option.

Today is the first day my kids are out of school. They get two weeks and a day off, go back for three days and then get another day off.

The title is toung-in-cheek… They, honestly, earn their breaks. School is hard. They always have at least 30 minutes of homework (B included) and they are required to read, too.

So, we will enjoy the time off! I know from experience that busy kids are happy kids. I have tried to plan just enough activities to keep them getting along & not too many (we still need the down time, too!).

Today we had a couple of “have tos” (the dentist, allergist, & grocery store), but now are at one of the indoor trampoline parks. Tomorrow we’ll go to the movies. On Wednesday the plan is to go to the zoo. Thursday is up in the air. And Friday we will go to an art festival. Are you feeling tired, yet?

Next week we are going to Vegas! Just the kidlets and I are goinghas to work, boo!)

Hopefully, I will have fun photos and adventures to share 🙂

I had sinus surgery on Friday. It was pretty much the exact same surgery as before, only with a different surgeon. This time around the surgery lasted twice as long and will (hopefully) yeild much better results!

For now, I can tell you that I look like I’ve been hit a few times in the face 😛

My loving Mama came out on Thursday and was a *huge* help with the kiddos & the house (Thanks, Mom!). B managed to make it to recovery in time for me to wake up (Love you, Baby-baby!). And Grandma brought a plant & came and baby-sat me last night (Thanks, Janice!). So, I guess that means I have been well taken care of.

The goal of all of this surgery is to get me to a point where I will only get the occasional sinus infection–like less than 4 times a year.

But, I can honestly say that if this surgery wasn’t the solution I do not want to try a third round. It’s rough sleeping in a recliner and not being able to breathe through your nose at all for days on end. Not to mention the fact that my ego is taking a beating with how my face looks right now–B doesn’t want to give me hugs and kisses.

I hope that you are healthy and happy and breathing fresh air…

Working Woman?

Since the kids went to school this Fall, I have been a “lazy”-SAHM… What else can I call it? I have been staying at home sans kids… I guess I could call it heaven. And I have enjoyed it. I have felt like I had time to breathe. I have been able to shop for groceries *alone*. I have been able to get my house pretty clean and keep it up fairly well. I have cooked more meals.

But, it would be a lie if I said that I was competely content. Every few weeks I would look at jobs or look up career choices–I would even look at classes.

A couple weeks ago, I found a job that sounded like a good fit. So, I called and now I am a working woman. It’s not a “real” job. I will be watching a little guy here three days a week. I am very excited about getting to cuddle a baby and getting paid for it. I won’t be adding much to the household income, but I will be putting a little in the pot.

Did I mention I get to snuggle a baby?!?

The other night we were all out to dinner–the family & a few Aunts & an old family friend. And B was entertaadults the adults. I wish I would have saved the picture she drew to scan. It was basically a circle with 4 lines sticking out from the bottom.

Then, she was having the adults guess what animal she drew. And, ya know, with the lack of detail, it was quite the challenge. So, she started to give clues.

—It starts with a K…

—It has four legs…

The guesses were flying, “Koala? Kangaroo? Kitty?”

We got one more clue, “It is white with black spots.”

Obviously…it was a kow 🙂
