So, life is busy. No change there!

I think back to our time fostering, we always had such drama. There were huge changes day to day. We are still busy, but it’s a calm busy–like the constant waves of the ocean, always in motion, but rhythmic. It’s much more manageable than the craziness & uncertainty of foster care.

In our normal now, I am loving my job. I watch a little dude, A, three days a week. He’s 7 months old and just an adorable little chunk. He’s not crawling yet–which I am thankful for. I don’t have any races planned, but am still running. I have not been diligent (to say the very least) with my diet the last couple months & now my jeans are snug. So, as of yesterday, I am back on medifast.

Dan is a lady killer… We are amused and a little scared when we see the love notes that come home. And I am already avoiding answering the phone–it’s never for me & usually a girl! In school, he just did a project about Nevada & now he’s learning the state capitals.

David, oh my sweet David, where are you? He has been quite a little handful this week! He reminds me of me–a little sarcastic. What doesn’t remind me of me is his video game obsession–that’s 100% B!

Vin is also quite the gamer. But, that’s not his only skill. This quarter he got straight A’s!!! In school, if he gets 100% on his spelling pre-test, he doesn’t have spelling homework that night & gets to skip the test. He does that a lot. I imagine in a year or two his spelling skills will surpass mine. He is sporting a
“unique” smile these days–one of his front teeth is dangling by a thread (gross!).

Bethy also as quite the smile. She has already Iost 8 teeth & the adult teeth are coming in quickly. She has been doing winter guard and has really enjoyed it. Her last show was yesterday & she is ready to sign up again–although, we will skip the summer. She has been in trouble a bit at school. I know it’s hard to believe, but my daughter is chatty.

And my husband, we just celebrated 10 years of marriage ๐Ÿ™‚ This past 6 months or so have been a challenge for B though, not as far as our marriage, but just in life. His dad passed so very quickly. It still feels unreal to me. It has been so hard to just watch his grieving process. But, he is doing just that. He’s processing and progressing & I know that it will never be o.k., but I do see parts of my husband coming back that have been missing.

We also have just plain been missing each other, too! March is a very busy month for him–that’s why I took the kids solo to Vegas. But, we made it! We are back to our normal busy ๐Ÿ™‚

I think those are the high points.

Here are a couple pix ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Good and the Bad

The kids went back to school yesterday (good!). But, I forgot to e-mail their teachers (bad). I was going to let them know about the loss so that they could keep me in the loop if any of the kids had any behaviors that were out of the ordinary. Well, with me forgetting, two of the kids brought it up on their own. Which, I think is a good thing. They seem to be able to talk about it. I think that shows that they’re going through the grieving process.

Through being a foster parent and training the PS-MAPP classes for so long, I learned a lot about grief. The kids that are in the system go through a tremendous amount of loss. They go through loss that is so jarring that many of them cannot recover completely. When you read about kids with attachment disorders, those are the kids who never got back to being a kid. I am grateful for what I learned. I think it makes me a better mom and a better person overall. But, as we’re going through this grieving process, I almost wish I didn’t know. Things have been going o.k. for B and his family. But, I am so incredibly worried about what lies ahead.

I think about the holidays and how they will have sadnessย attached to them from now on… I know that families go through this every.single.day. But, it still makes me sad for my kiddos. I don’t want them to have to think about who is missing. It’s just not fair (true and bad).

Sigh.

Anyhow, I do see some good. The other day the kids and I went to see D’s therapist and we really focused on Grandpa during the session. Afterwards, the therapist sat down with me one-on-one. She said that the reaction she’s seeing from the kids is typical (good) and that it will take them a long time to process everything. I am just so glad that we have her there as a resource. And I am so thankful for our friends and family who have been thinking/praying about and for us. We are not a religious family, but my theory is that a little bit of extra love is *never* a bad thing.

Please, go and hug on your loved ones just a little bit extra for us today!

I am starting this in line— guessing I will finish it later though.

We are rocking through the park!

We have gone on:

Thunder Mountain
Splash Mountain
The Swiss Family Robinson treehouse
Pirates of the Carribean
Space Mountain (twice)
Buzz Lightyear (3 times!)
And the Rockets…

Then we added on *another* trip on Space Mountain and the Monster’s Inc. show.

Right now we are waiting to meet Merida ๐Ÿ™‚ (My latest sewing project has been a Merida dress that will be done in time for Halloween)

Next up? Small World?

Tom Sawyer’s Island is in high demand, too.

Disney is a lot of work!!

A good time was had by all yesterday and there was minimal crying (mostly by the adults when we saw the ticket prices!).

The men-folk are golfing this morning so that leaves us with 8 kids, 2 moms & Nana. We are pool-side ๐Ÿ™‚

One of the things I enjoy most about our school district is the calendar year. They have what they call “modified year-round” school. The kids still get a summer break, but it’s shorter than most & they get extra time off in the Fall and Spring. It is amazing for us in AZ, because the times you want to be out and about are not in the summer!

The other huge bonus is that extra times means that we can travel and enjoy without having to fit it all in a week…

This year, we are doing something more than normal, too! Rather than go through it all, I will try to blog as we go (key word= try).

Anyhow, we started our trip yesterday and it was a full day of travel. We literally were on the go the whole day… We left the house @ 6:45 in the morning and got the kids in bed @ 1:00 this morning—thankfully there is a time difference in there. It was a long day. But, we have good travelers and it gets easier each year.

Today, the kids slept in and we just ran out to the store to pick up food…

And then we hit the pool.

Right now we are waiting on the family… We are in FL, so we get to spend time with Nana, Papa & most of the cousins & they will get to see most of their Aunts & Uncles, too!

We will be quite the crew!
